Under the new healthcare law everybody has to have health insurance by April 1st, March 15th is the deadline to set things up so I figured I’d get on the ball. I figured I’d have to pay about 150-200$/month for an okay plan and I really cannot afford that. Turns out I’m applicable for MA in the state of Minnesota which means I’ll pay nothing, that’s really nice. I injured my eye last week and can’t really use my left eye anymore and I’m so glad I can probably go in in about a month to get it looked at. I haven’t had health coverage for so long. Kids just don’t understand how expensive doctor visits are. A trip to the doctor out of pocket will cost you about $400+ and even with insurance it’s about $300 until you’ve met you deductible/ max out-of-pocket and that can be upwards of $6000. So the last two years, doctor visits, prescriptions, etc. have been costing me upwards of six thousand dollars a year. Last year I went to the ER so many times. I probably had $50,000 in medical bills. Things aren’t like they used to be, when I’d pay a $20 copay at the counter and the rest was covered. Now you can get a 90/10 plan with an $800 deductible but it’s going to cost you $300 a month. It’s insane.
